    A Goodbye

Some news for you to start 2025: we’ve decided that we’ll be closing the blog. It’s been 5 years of blogging and, as you might have guess, we’ve been steadily running out of content ideas (and motivation) for the past year or so. So, while we still have some energy, we’re calling it quits. We’ve grown with this blog over the last few years: our reading tastes perhaps changed and our reading habits most definitely have. But the publishing landscape also developed, maybe just not as much as we would all have wanted. Still, it’s easier to find books with LGBT representation than it was just five years ago when we first started this adventure. So we’re leaving you in your own capable hands now (with a few pointers for how we found most of the books on our lists).

Reads Rainbow is going to remain up as an archive, and we’ll still add books to our 2025 list if you email us about them, but we will no longer be posting on here (the newsletter is another matter, should we ever feel a sudden urge to recommend, so you can still follow that if you wish). We will also be making our 2024, 2025, and 2026 onwards lists available for everyone to browse (scroll to the end of this post for that!), but they won’t be updated all that regularly.

We’ve had a super fun time blogging for the past 5 years, but the last year or so has… let’s say tested our ability to come up with new rec lists and content. We hope that, over the years, you’ve found some good books to read, some new music to listen to, and great films to watch! If you ever want recs, you will still be able to find us on various social medias, or via email, so feel free to get in touch.

So, for one last time, let us leave you with a few quick links!

Music Releases: LGBT songs of November & December 2024

A little bit different, just for the end of the year: I’m giving you two months worth of music at once. The November playlist is a little bit late, but in turn the December one is a few weeks early. It all works out! It all makes sense!

Anyway, hope you thrived this year and will use the last few days to rest and relax, and listen to some new music.

I also compiled a small playlists of LGBT Palestinian artists, if that’s something of interest for you.

Book Recs: Trans & Nonbinary Adult Fantasy (II)

Last but not least in our trip through LGBT adult fantasy is the second trans & nonbinary rec list! As you might expect, this was a little trickier to fill out than the others (and yes part of that is down to my pickiness), but numbers are increasing! These are just 10 books I’d rec, but there are plenty more on our releases posts (fantasy is here & here!).

And hey, a lot of these titles are available on the artist formerly known as Scribd, so if you want to check out that service but don’t have an account yet, use my invite code to get 2 months for free! (This also gives me one free month.)

You can find the previous posts here, along with the part twos, as I post them:

    Lesbian (I) | Gay (I) | Bi/Pan (I) | Trans (I)

Lesbian (II) | Gay (II) | Bi/Pan (II)

  • Interviews

    Author Interview: Kellan McDaniel

Spooky season might be over for another year, but that doesn’t mean the spooky reads stop coming! If you’re a vampire fan, then you’ll want to be on the lookout for Kellan McDaniel’s Till Death in March. But if you can’t wait that long, let us give you a little teaser with this interview!

Remember, you can keep up with Kellan via instagram.

    Author Interview: Elba Luz

Are you ready for the first interview of December? I hope so because we’re coming to you today with just that! Elba Luz’s debut novel releases next month (preorder links at the end of this post!) and so it’s about time to start getting excited — which is why we have this post for you. So, what are you waiting for?

Don’t forget you can also keep up with Elba via instagram.

Book Recs: Bi/Pan Adult Fantasy (II)

Penultimate of the adult fantasy rec lists now: yes, today I’m coming your way with 10 adult fantasy recs featuring bi/pan main characters. Alright, so you’ll probably start to notice a pattern (or a few authors in common) across the 7 lists. So sue me! When it’s good, it’s good! Anyway, as ever, I hope you find something here that catches your eye & make sure to check back in next month for the final list.

And hey, a lot of these titles are available on the artist formerly known as Scribd, so if you want to check out that service but don’t have an account yet, use my invite code to get 2 months for free! (This also gives me one free month.)

Music Releases: LGBT songs of October 2024

Yes, okay, I will admit that I’ve already started watching Christmas movies (and if you want some recs, by the way, maybe check out the two lists I made in recent years: one & two), but I’m capable of multitasking and finding music that’s not yet merry. I might have gone a bit overboard with this one, to be honest, it is almost forty hours long…

I also compiled a small playlists of LGBT Palestinian artists, if that’s something of interest for you.

    Artist Interview: Alexander Mountain

Alexander released his debut EP – titled A House, Not a Home – two days ago, and we thought that makes it a perfect timing for an interview! It’s also very atmospheric & full of longing which means that it’s an ideal soundtrack for those upcoming long autumn nights.

So check out Alexander’s EP here, and of course you can follow him on instagram.

Book Recs: Gay Adult Fantasy (II)

Moving swiftly onto the next of the adult fantasy rec lists (part two), we’re now onto G! Here you will find 10 adult fantasy recs featuring gay main characters. Keep an eye out for B and T in the next few months too, because they’re on their way, but for now, have a read of these recs.

And hey, a lot of these titles are available on the artist formerly known as Scribd, so if you want to check out that service but don’t have an account yet, use my invite code to get 2 months for free! (This also gives me one free month.)

    Author Interview: DJG Palmer

Today’s interview is for fans of super detailed, thoroughly researched historical fiction, where the past is brought to life on the page. That is, today’s post is with DJG Palmer, whose second book, In the Ranks of Death, is out next month (and preorderable). But don’t just take our word for it: let the author himself convince you!

Don’t forget, you can also keep up via instagram.

Book Recs: Lesbian Adult Fantasy (II)

Ever since I made the first of these posts about 4 years ago now, I’ve been meaning to revisit this series and do a, if not completely updated version, then at least a follow-up. A part two. Ten more lesbian adult fantasy books you should read! (And, before the end of the year, the G, B, & T equivalents too!) So, get yourself ready to dive right in!

And, hey, a lot of these titles are available on the artist formerly known as Scribd, so if you want to check out that service but don’t have an account yet, use my invite code to get 2 months for free! (This also gives me one free month.)

Music Releases: LGBT songs of August 2024

It’s not even the second half of the month, so I personally think I’m very early with the post this time around! The length of those playlists is also slowly getting out of hand, but that is a pretty good problem to have, right? Unless you’re actually like me and only listen to three songs on a loop for a year…

I also compiled a small playlists of LGBT Palestinian artists, if that’s something of interest for you.

    Author Interview: Kemi Ashing-Giwa

Super exciting interview going up today, with Kemi Ashing-Giwa! Kemi’s debut novel came out last year (The Splinter in the Sky) and she has a novella coming out later this month (along with a preorder campaign for extra goodies!). In addition to our questions for Kemi, she had some for us too & we answered those at the end of the interview. Before we start, you can still preorder The World Is Not Yours here & don’t forget to enter the preorder campaign to receive a high resolution digital poster and three deleted scenes from the novella!

And you can also keep up with Kemi via her newsletter & Bluesky.
